Diwali Hampers in Halifax & Dartmouth

Most Diwali gifting in Halifax still means a box couriered from India that lands five to seven days later as shelf-stable sweets. A Nova Cakes Diwali hamper is built in Dartmouth the same week you need it, around a freshly baked 100% eggless cake.

Diwali Gift Hampers Built Here, Not Shipped In

A Diwali hamper starts the same way our other hampers do — a decorative wooden tray finished with balloons and LED lights, holding a 500g cake in a clear presentation box and a fresh rose bouquet. For Diwali most families swap the cake to a mithai flavour: rasmalai with saffron and pistachio, gulab jamun folded through cardamom sponge, or pistachio dressed in festive gold.

From there it is yours to build. Jars of dry fruits such as pistachios and almonds, a dry cake loaf for the tea table, chocolates, a festive greeting card, helium balloons, a teddy — or a gift you have chosen yourself for us to present with it. Nothing comes off a fixed catalogue, so a hamper going to a neighbour, a client and your own parents can each look completely different.

The difference a local hamper makes is the part that usually travels worst. Sweets couriered internationally arrive long-life and stamped by customs; a hamper assembled in a Dartmouth kitchen arrives with a cake baked days earlier. For families across Clayton Park, Bedford, Cole Harbour and Eastern Passage, that freshness is the gift. And because no eggs are used anywhere in our kitchen, every Diwali hamper is vegetarian by default — one less thing to check before it goes on a festival table.

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, with Govardhan Puja on the 9th and Bhai Dooj on the 10th. That weekend is the busiest stretch of our year and it books out first. We do accept same-day hamper orders and late-night deliveries around 11:30 PM, but during festival week the earlier you message, the more choice you have of flavours and delivery times.

Diwali Hampers in Halifax — FAQs

When is Diwali 2026 in Halifax?

Diwali 2026 falls on Sunday 8 November, followed by Govardhan Puja on Monday 9 November and Bhai Dooj on Tuesday 10 November. Halifax also has its own community celebrations — the Diwali Carnival at the Halifax Forum, run by the Indian Festivals Club of Nova Scotia, has drawn thousands each year since 2017. Many families celebrate on the weekend nearest the festival, and we bake to whichever day you are keeping.

Where can I buy Diwali gifts in Halifax?

Most Diwali gifting options for Halifax are either Indian grocery and sweet shops selling boxed mithai, or websites that courier a pre-packed box from India. Nova Cakes is a third option: a hamper built here in Dartmouth around a freshly baked 100% eggless cake in a mithai flavour, with dry fruits, chocolates and a festive card added as you like, delivered across Halifax, Dartmouth and Bedford. We are a bakery rather than a sweet shop, so the centrepiece is a cake, not a mithai tray.

What goes into a Nova Cakes Diwali hamper?

The base is a decorative wooden tray finished with balloons and LED lights, holding a 500g cake in a clear presentation box and a fresh rose bouquet. For Diwali the cake is usually a mithai flavour such as rasmalai, gulab jamun or pistachio. Dry fruits, a dry cake loaf, chocolates and a festive card are common additions.

Can I choose what goes inside the hamper?

Yes — every hamper is made to order. Tell us who it is for and what you would like inside, and we will build it around that. Helium balloons, a teddy, chocolates, a greeting card or a gift of your own can all be included. We confirm the complete contents with you on WhatsApp before anything is baked or boxed.

Do you deliver Diwali hampers to Dartmouth and Bedford?

Yes — we bake in Dartmouth and deliver across Halifax, Bedford, Cole Harbour, Lower Sackville, Clayton Park, Fairview, Spryfield, Eastern Passage and nearby Nova Scotia communities, depending on availability. Pickup in Dartmouth is always an option, and is often easiest on the festival day itself.

How far ahead should I order a Diwali hamper?

Three to four days is comfortable for a standard hamper, and a week or more for a custom-decorated centrepiece cake or a larger build. Diwali weekend is the fullest week of our year and goes to the earliest orders. Same-day hampers are still often possible — message us early in the day and we will tell you what is realistic.

Is a local Diwali hamper better than one shipped from India?

It arrives fresh rather than shelf-stable, with no international shipping, no customs and no risk of a delayed or damaged parcel. The cake is baked here days before it reaches you. You can also adjust what goes inside right up until we assemble it, which is not something a pre-packed courier box allows.

Can you do office or bulk Diwali gifting?

Yes — matching hampers for staff, clients and office Diwali events are something we build regularly. Message us with how many you need and the date. Festival week fills early, so bulk orders should be confirmed well ahead.

Are your Diwali hampers vegetarian? Are they vegan?

Every hamper is vegetarian, because no eggs are used anywhere in our kitchen. They are not vegan, though — our cakes contain dairy such as butter, cream and milk, which is traditional for mithai flavours anyway.

Nova Cakes is a 100% eggless home bakery serving Dartmouth, Halifax, Bedford, Cole Harbour, Lower Sackville, Burnside and nearby Nova Scotia communities. Pickup and delivery are offered depending on availability.
